The Royal Exhibition Building invites schools to learn about the building's distinctive history and enjoy breathtaking views from the Dome Promenade not seen for over 100 years.
Built in 1880 for the Melbourne International Exhibition, the Royal Exhibition Building epitomises the wealth, excitement and energy of Marvellous Melbourne.
The REB cemented itself as a Melbourne icon when it hosted the opening Australia’s Federal Parliament in 1901.
Since then, it has been used for many purposes, including as a hospital during the 1919 Spanish Flu Pandemic, a training barracks for the RAAF in WWII, Australia’s first aquarium, as well as many local and internationals shows and festivals.
This staff-led experience showcases a new exhibition detailing the building's history and varied uses over time. It also includes directional activity undertaken on the Dome Promenade, featuring breathtaking 360-degree views of Melbourne’s Skyline.
The Royal Exhibition Building is beautiful inside and out—and a true historical landmark of Melbourne.
