Nocturnal has joined forces with Midsumma and Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival to present two exhilarating nights of electrifying art and culture at Melbourne Museum after dark.

Nocturnal and Midsumma are calling all dancing queens to our Lunar New Year Disco / 新年迪斯科舞厅 / ปีใหม่ดิสโก้ for an unmissable night of waacking and punking dance battles. Drag Race royalty Pangina Heals and Taiwan’s Chrissy Chou will judge the street dance battles, inspired by 1970s Los Angeles LGBT disco.
Pangina Heals is a Drag Race icon after co-hosting Drag Race Thailand for two seasons and performing at RuPaul Drag Con's and LGBT+ club venues around the world. Pangina Heals is known for her vivacious personality, waacking and drag performance across Asia.
'Waacking' is a form of dance created in the LGBT clubs of Los Angeles, the genre involves sharp movements of the arms to beat of the music, influenced by dramatic acting in Hollywood’s 1950s silent films. Chrissy Chou, one of the leading experts and world-ranked competitors in this genre, is the co-founder of C'est La Waack in Taiwan, one of the world's largest and prestigious waacking battles. The winner of the waacking battle at Lunar New Year Disco will have a spot to compete in her battle in Taipei, in November 2020. Nocturnal x Fashion promises an explosive night of music and muses, headlined by Melbourne’s very own electronic pop powerhouse Banoffee. Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival will deliver the fashion with a vibrant collaboration of contemporary fashion house Romance Was Born and the inspirational dance practice Chunky Move.
Banoffee brings her textured vocals and staple synth back home to headline Nocturnal x Fashion. The Los Angeles-based artist and producer is known for her infectious melodies and has toured with such giants as Taylor Swift on a worldwide stadium tour as part of Charlie XCX’s troupe.
Banoffee's headline show aligns with the hotly anticipated release of her of debut full-length album on 21 February 2020 titled Look At Us Now Dad- an uplifting journey that celebrates survival in the face of adversity.
Melbourne’s leading contemporary dance company Chunky Move has partnered with iconic Australian fashion label Romance Was Born to create a cross-genre collaboration. Dancers will be dressed in a collection inspired by artist Samuel Hodge's work for the SS20 Romance Was Born Collection, titled The Golden Promise. Chunky Move's artistic director Antony Hamilton will have dancers undertake a kaleidoscopic metamorphosis, as their movements exploit the range of the collection. Embrace the fashion overload with a VR fashion film experience, as well as a showing of the official selection of 2019 Fashion Awards.
Mojo Juju is conquering the Australian music scene and ready take her talent to the dance floor with a DJ set, backed up by the multidisciplinary artist Rainbow Chan, Australian club icons Purple Sneakers, Perth electronic act Feels, RnB livewire Pania, Melbourne synth dynamic goth duo SaD and Hey Drums- a thrilling collective of female and gender minority drummers and percussionists.
