Nocturnal x Midsumma: Lunar New Year Disco

Friday 7 February - Melbourne Museum | Tickets on sale now

Nocturnal and Midsumma are calling all dancing queens to our Lunar New Year Disco / 新年迪斯科舞厅 / ปีใหม่ดิสโก้ for an unmissable night of waacking and punking dance battles. Drag Race royalty Pangina Heals and Taiwan’s Chrissy Chou will judge the street dance battles, inspired by 1970s Los Angeles LGBT disco.

Pangina Heals is a Drag Race icon after co-hosting Drag Race Thailand for two seasons and performing at RuPaul Drag Con's and LGBT+ club venues around the world. Pangina Heals is known for her vivacious personality, waacking and drag performance across Asia.

'Waacking' is a form of dance created in the LGBT clubs of Los Angeles, the genre involves sharp movements of the arms to beat of the music, influenced by dramatic acting in Hollywood’s 1950s silent films. Chrissy Chou, one of the leading experts and world-ranked competitors in this genre, is the co-founder of C'est La Waack in Taiwan, one of the world's largest and prestigious waacking battles. The winner of the waacking battle at Lunar New Year Disco will have a spot to compete in her battle in Taipei, in November 2020. More information and registration details for participants and workshops can be found here.
