Museums Victoria rejects any suggestion that Scienceworks is being closed or demolished to make way for apartments. Scienceworks is not closing, and Museums Victoria has no plans to use the site for residential purposes.

For more than 30 years, Scienceworks has sparked curiosity in generations of Victorians and remains a much-loved part of Museums Victoria. Our commitment to it is resolute. Scienceworks at Spotswood is a key strategic priority for the organisation.
Our Vision is to continue to transform Scienceworks into a world-leading science museum, driving social, economic and education outcomes for all Victorians. It will build on Victoria’s reputation as a global leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), cementing the museum’s place as a world-class cultural, education and tourism destination in Melbourne’s West.
This work is ongoing, and right now we're developing a new world-class playspace that will open next year.
We know Victorians love Scienceworks as much as we do, and we will continue to work towards our Vision so Scienceworks can serve them for generations to come.
