Nocturnal collaborates with Midsumma once again to serve a sassy summer dance floor
Nocturnal joins forces with the feel-good, rainbow vibes of Midsumma on 10 February, bringing together another shimmering musical cast for an adults-only night at Melbourne Museum. Soak up live music, expert talks, badge making and with all spaces open for curious minds to enjoy exclusive night-time access. Don your glitter and dancing pants – it’s time to get your summer groove on.
First to fill the floor with fine tunes will be DJ Kitty Glitter, whose impromptu drag performances and servings of disco/funk-laced house have made her a regular at Sydney Mardi Gras for many years.
Taking a breather from the dance-floor, visitors can experience all that Melbourne Museum has to offer, including tri-nations exhibition Naadohbii: To Draw Water, which illustrates an axis of solidarity between First Peoples nations across the globe around environmental, political, and cultural connections and relationships to water. Out on Melbourne Plaza for Summer of Play, there are illuminated swings, seesaws, ping-pong, games, cocktails and icecreams, and punters can venture up to enjoy the stars and lights of the city with Twilights Tours of the Dome Promenade. And as Nocturnal-lovers have come to expect, there will be museum tours, curator talks, crafty classes and pop-up performances.
Headlining the summer night will be much-loved Papua New Guinea-born, Naarm-based neo-soul queen Kaiit (pronounced Ky-yeet). Creating waves and commanding the attention of soul and hip hop tastemakers after bursting onto the scene in 2017 with her debut single "Natural Woman", the ARIA-award winning artist has sold out multiple national tours, performed at Splendour in the Grass and Laneway Festival, and supported international heavyweights including SZA and The Internet. Drawing musical inspiration from her idols Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill, Kaiit has been hailed by neo-soul luminaries Jill Scott and Erykah Badu as their 'musical love child from down under’.
