Waring | Wombat Season

Help create an art installation that immerses you into Waring | wombat season! In this activity you will have the opportunity to learn about some of the key signs of Waring Season (April – July) and contribute to a large public installation representing Wurundjeri Country during this cold and misty time of year.

Connect with the wondrous details of Victoria’s landscapes through a hands on digital immersion and art workshop. Gain knowledge of native plants and their significance to First Peoples and acquire lifelong skills in digital technologies.
Working together, children and adults engage with native Victorian plant-life and develop skills in observation and digital botanical art.

Create your own miniature road signs as part of our road safety directions game. This activity supports children to learn about the road rules that help keep everyone safe when using our roads.
Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs

Come face-to-face with one of the most awe-inspiring creatures ever to walk the Earth. Meet the most complete real dinosaur in Australia, 67-million-year-old Horridus the Triceratops, only at Melbourne Museum. This exhibition is an immersive voyage into a lost world - explore the landscapes of the Cretaceous and get to know the creatures that thrived there.
Open Horizons: Ancient Greek Journeys and Connections

See some of the most significant items from the prestigious National Archaeological Museum in Athens. The exhibition tells the story of ideas, influences and connections that form and build communities. It will take you on a journey through Ancient Greece, exploring how the trade of ideas and goods influenced Greek culture, and in turn influenced the ancient world.

The Colour Combo Show

Take a seat in our under-cover amphitheatre for a look at COLOUR! The Colour Combo Show is a free 20-minute colour-filled show that shines a light on what happens when colours are combined and taken away. If yellow plus blue equals green, then why does red, green and blue equal white? Find out why when you come to The Colour Combo Show!
Tricks With Light

Have some fun with light demonstrations in the pumping station. Can you bend light? Write your name using light? Trick your brain into seeing colour that isn’t there? These up-close tricks of light will amaze you.
Visual Illusions

Do your eyes deceive you? This pop-up exhibition in the Pumping Station explores how we see the world and whether our vision can sometimes get it wrong.
Lights, Energy, Action!

Explore all things ENERGY through three rounds of electrifying demonstrations in Scienceworks' high-voltage lighting room. The show investigates different kinds of energy, including light, sound, electricity, and how they intertwine. Including spectacular demonstrations, high-voltage equipment, and charismatic presenters, there’s no better place to spark your curiosity.
Pumping Station Tours

Hear some of the smelly stories from the straining well and explore the magnificent engine room as you marvel at the engineering feat that helped overcome the stench of 19th century Melbourne in our daily Pumping Station tours.
Collection Store Tours

Go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Scienceworks Collection Store. Get a chance to see some of the 40,000 collection items stored at Scienceworks and listen to the stories of these rare and unique items.
Illuminate: How Science Comes to Light

Illuminate is a brand-new exhibition exploring the science behind the fastest traveller in the universe – light. Ignite the senses and learn through hands-on interactive play. What is light, what can we do with it and how do we see? In this vibrant festival-themed exhibition explore visual perception and illumination through colour, sound and action. Learn how light behaves, such as how it reflects and refracts and what tools we’ve invented to harness it.

Persian Sambousek cooking workshop
