Explore Earth’s geological processes in this engaging exhibition showcasing an impressive collection of different minerals and rocks.
Students will experience
- Spinning the Earth through geological time to see how our planet has changed.
- Be immersed in the power of Earth’s natural forces in the 3D cinema.
- Explore the Earth's formation, the composition of layers within the Earth, rock formation and find a range of common rock types through the extensive displays of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks.
- An amazing array of minerals in different sizes and shapes, and the chance to find out which ones fluoresce under UV light.
- An incredible display of gems.
Students will learn
- That minerals are the building blocks of rocks and that the different characteristics of rocks depend on the minerals within them.
- About different uses of minerals, such as for gemstones in jewellery.
- How First Peoples of Australia use different rock and mineral types
- That Earth is a dynamic planet as demonstrated by tectonic activity, including the formation of geological features at divergent, convergent and transform plate boundaries.
- To recognise sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks, and how the minerals within them are used in our everyday objects.
