On the first Saturday of every month, the Immigration Museum offers low sensory sessions for visitors who experience sensory sensitivity.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience quieter galleries with fewer people and reduced sensory stimuli.

Low sensory inclusions:

  • Sound and light level reduction in all ongoing exhibitions
  • A quieter time of operation
  • Sensory maps available on arrival to plan your low sensory visit
  • Social stories offered through our Autism-friendly museum program.

Please note: We have not made adjustments to surcharged experiences, temporary exhibitions, shows or programs. While 3 to 5pm on Saturday is traditionally a quiet period, The Immigration Museum is popular and there may still be crowds in our gallery spaces.

Sensory Bags

If you have sensory sensitivities or are feeling overwhelmed during your visit, you can borrow a free sensory bag. The bags contain:

  • Noise reduction earmuffs
  • Fidget tools
  • A communication card

Sensory bags can be borrowed from the admissions desk located in the entrance foyer and returned to the same location at the end of your visit.
