This exhibition displays the top entries from the 2024 David Malin Awards astrophotography competition.
Held annually by the Central West Astronomical Society, Parkes, NSW, the competition is open to Australian astronomers and photographer. Southern Sky Astrophotography 2024 – Australia’s premier celebration of celestial photography – showcasing the evocative winners of the 21st annual David Malin Awards.
From luminous star trails over iconic landmarks to hauntingly beautiful deep sky nebulae, this stunning touring exhibition brings together 22 award-winning photographs that blend science, art and imagination.
The annual David Malin Awards are a highlight of the astronomical calendar, selected by world-renowned astrophotographer Dr David Malin AM and supported by Powerhouse and CSIRO Space and Astronomy.
This year’s theme Working with Light in the Night, challenged photographers to contrast the glow of Earth’s artificial lights with the beauty of the night sky.
The competition aims to encourage photographers to use their vision, imagination and skill to produce inspiring and beautiful images of the sky.
