Budding makers can experiment with design, symbolism and storytelling through immersive and hands-on activities inspired by ancient Rome and the exhibition Rome: Empire. Power, People.

This Winter's school holiday highlights include:

  • Discover a world four billion years in the making in the new Our Wondrous Planet exhibition
  • Creative Lab: Rise of the Gladiators, where children shape their own gladiator identity through craft and play.
  • Mosaic Monuments, a free school holiday activity where children colour their own mosaic tile and add it to a growing participatory artwork.
  • Museum Sleepovers return these school holidays giving families exclusive after‑hours access to Melbourne Museum and IMAX before settling in for a night sleeping beneath the dinosaurs.
  • Tiny Tours is our program specially designed for younger children to discover the animals and habitats that make our planet extraordinary.
  • Dino Days, the museum’s much‑loved free weekly event for budding palaeontologists.

For more details and our full holiday offering, see below! Become a Museum Member and visit our museums for FREE these school holidays (and every other day!).
