After the spectacular success of our sold out first event, Discoteca Italiana returns to Melbourne Museum to celebrate Roman art, culture and daily life after dark, and farewell our blockbuster exhibition, ROME: Empire, Power, People.
Discoteca Italiana fuses Italy’s timeless cultural heritage with a contemporary Melbourne nightlife atmosphere, making it one of the most unique events in Melbourne this season and a must-attend for lovers of Italian culture, music and social experiences.
Dance the night away on our giant light-up disco dancefloor, make memories at a neon-inspired photo booth, eat delicious pizzas, pastas and desserts by Brunetti Classico while sipping cocktails… all with late-night access to the extraordinary exhibition ROME: Empire, Power, People included with your ticket.

Disco Mediterranea is an artistic project dedicated to celebrating the cultures that orbit the Mediterranean Sea through music, rhythm, and storytelling.
From the beginning, the project has carried a clear vision: to create feel-good, inclusive experiences that highlight Mediterranean identity in all its diversity — a contemporary expression of diaspora, warmth, and community spirit. Musically, Disco Mediterranea moves through disco, Italo house, funk, boogie, Latin grooves, and global rhythms, blending nostalgic flavours with modern energy.
Every set is built as a journey across coastlines and cultures — from Southern Italy to North Africa, from the Levant to Latin America —always with a signature sun-kissed, joyful touch. Taking inspiration from the project’s original ethos — giving voice to cultures often underrepresented, curating multi-sensory experiences, and creating spaces where people feel connected —Disco Mediterranea continues to evolve while staying rooted in that mission.
The focus remains on community, creative collaboration, and celebrating life through sound. Over the years, the project has contributed to shaping a renewed Mediterranean aesthetic within the Naarm/Melbourne scene, working with cultural venues, festivals, institutions, and artistic communities across the city.
Disco Mediterranea has performed at clubs, rooftops, festivals, and late-night institutions, and has shared the booth with international and local acts including Aroop Roy, Scott Grooves, Mendel, Eternal Love, Sam Ruffillo, Flamingo Pier, and Gabriele Poso. Each event carries the same intention: to make people feel welcome, uplifted, and part of something larger. A dancefloor that feels like home — open, warm, and full of Mediterranean spirit. The D Word
7pm I Disco Stage, Ground Floor
The D Word has been DJing for over 10 years, playing in bars and clubs across Melbourne with a major focus on disco and runs a party, Piu Disco, which is a night dedicated to original clubbing music from 1976 - 1984, with sounds encompassing Italo disco, Hi-NRG, electro and soulful, uptempo disco. A disco purist through and through, he reaches deep into his record collection to play the fun, the weird, and the wonderful of the genre.
