The Melbourne Story exhibition depicts the history of Melbourne since the arrival of the British in 1835. The exhibition consists of historical stories, artefacts, images and interactive components that illustrate the unfolding Melbourne story as seen through the eyes of its new citizens and original inhabitants.

The exhibition provides students with an overview of the development of the city, which will enable them to pose significant questions about how the city of Melbourne was developed and what sort of city it could be in the future.

A hands on staff-led activity will introduce students to object based learning and storytelling in a museum setting. This workshop will be conducted in the Learning studio before entry to the exhibition.

Students will be provided with a trail booklet to document their investigations, pose their questions, and make tentative recommendations for the future. Students can use their own devices to capture image and sound.

Teachers will be provided with links to resources that can be used for further investigation back at school both before and after the visit to the exhibition.
