Learn how scientists classify living things.

In this biological science curriculum-aligned excursion, students in Years 7 and 8 explore the rich biodiversity of life on Earth through digital and in-exhibition immersive ecosystems. Guided by a learning facilitator, they utilise various classification tools to identify and group living organisms and map the interconnections of living things.

Students will experience

  • Experience a unique immersive projection exploring ecosystems of Victoria.
  • Visit Our Wondrous Planet, Melbourne Museum's newest exhibition.
  • Explore the rich diversity of life across planet Earth.
  • Use classification keys to identify, group and differentiate different living things.

Students will learn

  • About the latest approaches to ecology, and how scientists discover, classify and protect biodiversity.
  • About different types of classification tools, and their applications.

Students will be provided

  • Pre and post visit resources.
  • In-exhibition tool to allow in-depth exploration of classification.
