How to make a sea bunny

Create your own Sea Bunny for the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit (water element).

Resembling a fluffy bunny, this cute-looking sea slug catches the eye. We’re going to take inspiration from this beautiful creature to create our own sea bunny pompom!

You will need:

  • White and Black Wool
  • Cardboard
  • Marker (or pompom maker if you have one)
  • Felt Fabric
  • PVA Glue
  • Scissors
  • Bristle Hairbrush (or pet slicker brush if you have one)

Instructions

  1. Draw two donut shaped pompom templates using your marker on the cardboard and cut them out with scissors. Cut a small slit on one side of each ring.
  2. Wrap your white wool repeatedly around the cardboard rings as you hold your two rings together with the slits aligned. Occasionally, wrap a bit of black wool among the white.
  3. When the ring is plump and the centre circle is almost filled in, stop wrapping the wool. Insert the scissors between the two cardboard templates and begin cutting the wool along the outer edge of the template.
  4. Once you have cut the entire way around, tightly tie a length of wool around the middle of the pompon between the two templates. Now, remove the cardboard template.
  5. Shape the pompom using your scissors to create a neat oval shape. When you are happy with this shape, fluff the pompom up with your brush to make it dense and fluffy.
  6. Finally, cut your felt to make the bunny’s ears (rhinophores) and glue these to the head of your sea bunny.

Let the glue dry, and there you have it! Your very own Sea Bunny pompom.
