Rainbows, Shadows & Light STEM Workshop

Years F to 2

Discover the science of light and colour.

This hands-on workshop for early primary school students uses STEM principles to get students experimenting and designing.

Students will experience

  • An immersive story about Scienceworks’ mascot Dot.
  • The captivating phenomena of light, including splitting white light into rainbows and making animated shadows.
  • Experimenting with different materials to see the ways that they filter and block light.
  • Using an assortment of materials to creatively tell stories and build a night light.

Students will learn

  • That white light is made up of all the colours of the rainbow.
  • That light travels in straight lines.
  • That when light is blocked we can create shadows and that the path of light can be bent.
  • That you can change the colour of light by using filters.
  • To apply their STEM skills, including problem. solving, creativity, teamwork, communication, and resilience.
