Ground Up: Building Big Ideas, Together

Ground Up: Building Big Ideas Together has been created for early learners.

The exhibition supports development of foundational science, engineering and coding skills. Each exhibit has been designed to promote curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity and persistence in children birth to 5 years old.

Children will experience

• Screen-free activities that develop understanding of cause and effect, sequencing and pattern making.
• Hands-on learning as they design and launch their own creations into large wind tubes, exploring principles of aerodynamics and engineering.
• Using a wall featuring 1,376 light switches which children can turn on and off to develop deductive thinking.
• Operating gears to control giant car wash brushes, discovering how small movements can have a big effect in a large environment.
• An interactive climbing challenge combined with a ball run, encouraging physical activity, coordination, and creative problem-solving.
• Collaborating with others as they construct walls using foam blocks, conveyor belts, pulley systems, and wheelbarrows, fostering teamwork and spatial reasoning.
• Exploring the exhibition at their own pace, in small groups with their supervisors.

Other key information

• School groups can access the Ground Up exhibition if they have booked a time slot.
• Students need to stay in small groups with their supervisors while in our exhibitions.
