Romp & Stomp: Into the Wild invites young explorers and their families on a museum-wide adventure through the wonders of the natural world. For one spectacular day only, Melbourne Museum transforms into a playful celebration of animals, habitats and the planet we call home. 

Bursting with music, movement, storytelling and hands-on creativity, celebrate play, wonder and the planet we all share. Whether you’re leaping like a lizard, fluttering like a butterfly or dancing through the forest, there’s something unforgettable around every corner. 

Created especially for kids and families, and open to everyone, this Children’s Week event is not to be missed.

Meet Kiki and Zuki – two curious creatures who discover each other through playful movement, colour, and gentle surprise in this captivating wordless performance. Then join a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own imaginative character through movement and making.

Explore the world of insects by crafting your very own 3D insect mask! Choose between creating a classic black bull ant or a vibrant green praying mantis. Discover the unique shapes and features of these fascinating creatures as you build and construct your mask to take home! 

Join the celebration by having your face painted with animals from across the continent by our First Peoples Visitor Engagement Officers.

Elevated fun awaits upstairs with Victoria's biggest and longest-running family travel website Tot Hot or Not. Perch amongst the treetops and refuel with tasty treats or try your hand at winning wild prizes.

Journey back in time and explore dinosaur landscapes with open sensory and imaginative play in our dinosaur inspired soft play lounge.

Meet Trio, a curious little Triceratops who loves watching, learning, and making new friends. Stop by and listen carefully—you might catch a gentle, rumbling bellow as it warmly says hello.

Step into the heat of AFI: Rise Through Flame with artist Logan Tapuala as he shares the story behind his work and leads you through bold, expressive hand movements that ignite the imagination

Get ready to roar, stomp, slither or strut – kids aged 2 to 12 are invited to dress as their favourite animal and take the spotlight! Join the fun, show off your creature costume, and be part of the cutest competition in the kingdom!

A special guest artist will take the stage to lead families through an engaging experience full of music, movement, and joyful interaction. Expect lively rhythms, vibrant energy and playful moments that celebrate creativity and connection. 

Did you know short-finned eels can travel thousands of kilometres to breed in the ocean? See them up close at Milarri Pond during feeding time and learn how these remarkable fish connect culture, Country, and freshwater ecosystems.
