Enter the world of ancient Rome in Melbourne Museum’s new Creative Lab workshop, Rise of the Gladiators.
Families are invited into the armoury beneath the Colosseum, where gladiators once prepared for battle. Through immersive sights and sounds, you’ll uncover how real Roman fighters used helmets, masks and symbols to tell powerful stories in the arena.
In the Creative Lab, participants will design and build their own gladiator mask, choosing from modular components inspired by historical armour. Along the way, you’ll learn about different gladiator styles, the anatomy of Roman helmets, and how identity, performance and protection were woven together in ancient combat.
Perfect for curious creatives aged 6 to 12, this 45-minute workshop blends hands-on making with history, theatre and imagination.
Forge your identity. The arena awaits.
