Phoebe Lagerberg, EcoFin Swimwear

Transcript

Phoebe’s Eco-Fin Swimwear seeks to solve a range of design problems. It consists of an ankle-length, form-fitting Lycra body suit with a high collar and long sleeves. This full body-coverage provides swimwear that is both conservative (with only the head, hands and feet showing), and reef-safe, by reducing the need for harmful sunscreens and preventing plastic containers from polluting our oceans.  The Lycra has been digitally printed: with an ombre-effect taking the fluorescent green colour at the collar down through shades of algae green and blue and slate grey, then back towards a shade of green at the knees. The Lycra that covers the calves and lower arms is patterned with overlapping scales in shades of iridescent blues and greens, inspired by the colours of the male butterflyfish. Aimed at women aged 18-35, Eco-Fin swimwear features components linked with open-ended blue zips (such as the lower portion of the body suit’s legs) for customisable style and versatile wear across the seasons. The zippers have 25mm x 90mm fabric tabs – attached by swivel snap hooks – to render them easy to grab and operate. A top hat made from algae-green Lycra with a luminous green brim accessorizes and adds additional sun protection for the face.
