Kelley Blackwood, Circuit

Transcript

In an otherwise monochrome animation, a green leaf lands on the hand of a robot's articulated fingers as the robot works at a computer console. The robot stares at the leaf, its eyes the only feature on his spherical face.

The robot's floppy ears perk up as it turns away from the console. A dense scribble of black ink crowds the robot's head as it looks from the leaf then away.

The robot touches its hand to a sign that reads 'P-R-I'. [PRON 'PEE AH EYE'] then wanders away.

Now the grey robot stands waist-high in green grass. A ray of sunshine casts a golden spot atop its head. The robot turns its head to survey the vegetation that surrounds it.

The sunlight morphs the robot's colour from grey to a soft pastel. Beyond, four-leaf clovers decorate an expanse of green.

Grass briefly bends as the robot runs its fingers through tall blades.

The robot's closed eyes open. It looks down to its hand, beneath which is a grey slab that bears the letters 'P.R.I'. Beside the slab is a wheel.

Now the robot descends a ladder into a dingy basement. A pair of torch-like lights project from the robot's eyes as it searches the darkness. It parts a grey curtain and steps through. Ahead is the console, packed with keyboards, switches, levers and monitors.

A golden light sweeps across the console as the robot surveys it. Now the robot presses down on multiple buttons. It clenches its fist as words on flashing red panels read Warning!. Forest greater than 20% System restart. Final cut. Estimating percentage decrease. 100% decrease.'

The robot's eyes reflect the red of the warning lights. It strains at a lever, finally pushing it upwards.

From an expanse of black, appears the forest. The robot stands bathed in a shaft of sunlight . Sprigs of purple wildflowers contrast with green vegetation.

The title appears in curvaceous, gleaming gold letters: Circuit.

Credits appear alongside sketched-out storyboard cells featuring the robot. Animated and edited by Keeley B. [KEY-lee BEE].
