Build your own dinosaur nest

According to paleontologists, most dinosaurs buried their eggs in nests covered with dirt and vegetation. Some however laid their eggs in open nests lined with plant material much like most birds do today.

If you’d like to create your own dinosaur nest just like Justin and Simone, you can follow the instructions below.

You will need

  • Paper lunch bag
  • ‘Mud’ paint: flour, water, brown food colouring
  • Paint brush
  • Nest material: twigs, sticks, grass, leaves
  • White glue
  • ‘Eggs’: fruit, balls, rolled-up socks

Instructions

Step 1: Cut off the top-third of a paper lunch bag then begin rolling it down towards the base. Continue rolling and shaping until you’re happy with the size and shape of your nest:

Step 2: Whisk together the ingredients for the paint until a smooth, mud-like consistency is achieved. Adjust the water or flour to create a thick paint.

Step 3: Using a large brush, cover the inside and outside of your dinosaur nest with the mud paint:

Step 4: Gather suitable nesting material from around your garden or neighbourhood. Dip these into glue then stick them all over the dinosaur nest:

Step 5: While the nest dries, design some dinosaur eggs to go inside- any round object from inside or outside the home will do:
