Dancing Dragonflies

Dragonflies are an excellent bio-indicator of water health and are one of the earth’s most ancient and successful insect groups. These formidable flyers and have two sets of wings that let them fly backwards and forwards and hover in the air. Living alongside the dinosaurs, dragonflies can be traced back to Gondwana.

Why not create your own Dancing Dragonfly?

DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM

You will need

  • Activity sheet
  • Coloured pencils
  • Paper straw
  • Sticky tape

What to do

1. Pop out the two dragonfly pieces and colour them in. You may like to visit Collections Online for some real-life dragonfly examples to inspire your colouring.

2. Place A in front of B and slot the two together.

3. Flip over and sticky tape the tabs to the straw.

4. Pull down flap A and wrap around the straw, securing with sticky tape. Then repeat with flap B.

5. Fold up the stand to hold your dragonfly and flutter away!
