A short film grappling with community expectations, the pitfalls of exposing your vulnerability through art, and the insecurities experienced during motherhood. Directed by Barış Arif Ulusoy and produced by Near Dark Productions.
Barış is driven by a deep curiosity for societal systems, a passion for sharing knowledge, and the strong belief that inter-sectionalist approaches to storytelling and collaboration allows authentic and resonant creativity to present itself organically.
Along with experience on Stan, ABC, SBS, and Disney+, Barış also works with organisations including Cinespace Inc and Outer Urban Projects, developing screen-based work at the cross-section of industry and community. His directorial debut, The Water of the Womb, screened in competition at the prestigious St. Kilda Film Festival and has been added to numerous international screening lists.
Barış is committed to producing work which exists in pockets of space carved out for honesty, healing, and reflection.
Near Dark represents the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the contemporary Australian identity through emotive and compelling visual storytelling.
Founded by Barış Ulusoy, Near Dark is inspired and empowered by collectivist ideologies and models of production that seek to dismantle traditional hierarchies, and develops and produces original narrative, factual and commercial audio-visual work.
Beat Magazine said it best – “Polat, a DJ known for digging deep and mixing wide. With a bottomless pit of tunes to draw from and a fearless approach to switching up the mood, Polat is one of those selectors who can have you dancing to something you didn’t even know you loved yet. Expect texture, groove, and more than a few surprises”.
Tatlı reimagines everyday rituals and disappearing traditions for the present with glamorous film and music events, articles and the occasional exclusive dessert.
Founded by Noor and Polat, some of Tatlı's notable achievements include sold-out live music and culinary experiences at the Brunswick Music Festival, a major football fundraiser for Brimbank City Council, creation of an award-winning dessert and promotional campaign for Cono Gelateria, and numerous film screenings and talks showcasing cinema from the Middle East and North Africa.
