Encourage young astronauts with this collection of activities designed to expand curious minds.  

This resource has been designed for use after Museums Victoria has visited your kindergarten or early learning centre for a Museum in a Van incursion. It has a range of activities and additional information to extend learning in the classroom.   

In this activity students will 

  • Explore how to code using everyday classroom materials. 
  • Make a balloon fly like a rocket. 
  • Learn about Australia's First Scientists' strong connection with the stars.  
  • Design their own planet.  
  • Investigate how chemical reactions create energy. 

Suggested questions to engage students 

  • What makes Earth special and why do you think it is the only planet we know of that has plants and animals? 
  • If you wanted to move to another planet, what would you look for? 
  • Why do you think robots are helpful in space?  
  • Many cultures see animals, people or objects in the stars. Have you ever seen anything in the stars?  
  • Can you tell a story about what you have seen in the stars? 
  • Robots don't all look like the Mars rover, you may even have robots at home! What other robots can you think of? What is the same or different about them?
