Ancient Worlds

Years 7 to 8

Experience the longest continuous culture in the world. 

Learn about the agricultural, community, and cultural practices of the First Peoples of south-eastern Australia. 

Students will experience

  • Exploration of the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre using a self-guided booklet designed to encourage deep listening and collaboration. 
  • Important cultural items and their accompanying stories. 
  • The diversity of First Peoples Cultural practices 
  • First Peoples voices. 
  • Methods of aquaculture and community practices. 

Students will learn

  • About the diversity of First Peoples in Australia.
  • The agricultural practices and technologies developed and used by First Peoples.
  • Community practices that have been passed down for generations 
  • The significance of Bunjil and how his laws continue to shape First Peoples lives.

Students will be provided

  • Students will be provided with a trail booklet to guide them through the exhibition. It can also be used upon returning to school to reflect on the experience and extend their learning.
  • Teachers should follow the trail on the map included in the booklet.

  • Teachers may want to watch the videos from the Bunjilaka website, in particular First Peoples Creation Cinema and Representing diversity. 
  • Students will NOT require any pens or pencils. No writing implements are permitted in Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre.
