First Peoples Prize

The First Peoples Prize is $15,000 and covers the commission of the proposed piece and its acquisition into the State of Victoria Gold Jewellery Collection. The First Peoples Prize is open to jewellers and creative practitioners who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

Applying for the First Peoples Prize

Applications for the First Peoples Prize should demonstrate expertise in the chosen medium and create an engaging response to the State of Victoria Gold Jewellery Collection.

Applications must include the following:

  • A visual representation of the proposed creation (sketch, image or plan) which communicates the concept design clearly.

  • A written statement of no more than 400 words describing the concept, techniques and materials used, and how the work responds to the State of Victoria Gold Jewellery Collection.

  • A written statement of no more than 400 words describing the fabrication plan for the work, including how the applicant plans to make the work and if the applicant will sub-contract any part of the production process to a professional maker or jeweller.

  • An up-to-date CV.

First Peoples Prize applicants are also encouraged to apply for the Major Prize or the Emerging Prize if eligible.
