What's On

This summer there's a range of offers for visitors to Melbourne Museum.

Located in the entrance to Bunjilaka for half of the holidays, we'll have story-telling and Bunjil's Gliders. In the fourth week of the holidays, we'll have a special artist residency with David Booth from Ghost Patrol.

What's on

Activity: Bunjil's Gliders

Japanese origami meets Indigenous design. Bunjil the Eagle is the local Indigenous creator spirit. Decorate a Bunjil Eagle glider inspired by the designs of Victoria's First Peoples and then create folds to make it glide through the air. How far can you make your Bunjil glider fly?

Meet people with intriguing jobs and find out what's actually involved in the acquisition, conservation, research, communication and exhibition of our material culture.

Workshop: Comics and Superheroes

In celebration of the First Peoples Marramb-ik exhibition in the Birrarung Gallery, join us and comic artist Michael Camilleri and spend the day learning the skills to create your own comic strip about a superhero that you love.

Have the opportunity to explore the First Peoples Marramb-ik exhibition with a guide. Hear about some heroes and talk about your heroes. Discover how to create a comic strip about your very own hero and then create your own comic.

Artist residency: Patrol the Abyss

All aboard the RV Investigator. This summer we'll be enjoying the creations of local artist Ghostpatrol. Learn about what lives in the depths of the deep, dark, sea and paint your own mysterious deep sea creature to add to the giant net installation that will grow over the school holidays.

Imagine fluorescent sea creatures in their hundreds and thousands swimming in front of Melbourne Museum’s Pygmy Blue Whale Skeleton. Ghostpatrol will entice you to create this flotilla which will shine in all lights.

You may recognise Ghostpatrol from his amazing drawings in the Pauline Gandel Children’s Museum. He is now gaining an international reputation for his prolific works including sketches, ceramics, murals and paintings.

Join us for sea creatures and light and drawing and fun.
