The highly anticipated Dome Under Film Festival returns to the Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks offering a weekend filled with back-to-back fulldome films from 3 to 4 February 2024.

As the sole fulldome film festival in Australia, the event promises to captivate audiences with a carefully curated selection of fulldome-format films sourced globally.

Unlike traditional cinema experiences, fulldome films will unfold across the entire 16-metre domed ceiling of the Melbourne Planetarium, providing an unparalleled hemispherical view. Paired with a state-of-the-art 5.1 surround sound system, attendees can expect an immersive, VR-like journey into the world of cinema.

The extensive program boasts 26 films of diverse genres, hailing from 13 countries. These films have been thoughtfully curated into seven themed sessions, including kids’ films, astronomy films, ‘Music to Melt Your Mind’, ‘Future Visions’, and ‘Mind Blowing Art’, ensuring a captivating experience for every attendee.

Warik Lawrance, Founder and Curator of Dome Under Film Festival, expressed his excitement for Melbourne audiences to once again indulge in a selection of the world's premier fulldome films.

“This marks the fourth consecutive year of bringing the best in fulldome cinema to the cultural landscape of Melbourne.”

“It’s fantastic to be able to offer such a high-calibre program of films for yet another year.”

“The festival will showcase an array of cutting-edge, awe-inspiring international films that explore the wonders of the universe, blending science, art, and entertainment. Attendees can expect to be transported to the far reaches of space, witness stunning visuals, and gain insights into the mysteries of our world,” he said.

Culminating on the festival's final day, a distinguished selection panel will present five prestigious awards, namely Best Astronomy Film, Best Children's Film, Best Narrative Film, Best Art Film, and Best Short Film. These winning films will be submitted for consideration in the esteemed international Best of Earth Awards, recognizing excellence, creativity, and innovation in fulldome media.
