Terms and Conditions
Museums Victoria is committed to creating an accessible, inclusive, and safe environment for all, regardless of sexuality, gender, identity, ability, or culture. Discrimination has no place in our museums. A condition of entry is that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Museums Victoria reserves the right, without the refund of any portion of the ticket purchase price, to refuse admission to or eject any person whose conduct is deemed by Museums Victoria to be disorderly, who uses vulgar or abusive language or who fails to comply with Museums Victoria terms and conditions.

Conditions of entry
Child supervision
- For safety and duty of care, all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times during your museum visit.
Food and drink
- To protect our collections from pests and damage, food and drink cannot be taken into exhibition galleries and spaces. Food and drink can be consumed in restaurant and cafe areas or in designated seating areas outside the exhibition spaces.
Members, seniors and concession card holders
- Your Museum Member, seniors, concession or student identification card must be presented with your ticket on the day of your visit. Photo identification must also be presented. Failure to present your Museum Member, concession or student identification with photo ID could result in the payment of full admission.
Cashless payment
- Museums Victoria has implemented cashless payment across our museums. Please note that only ticket and retail counters can accept cash payments. For visitors unable to access a cashless payment method, please speak to a visitor engagement officer for assistance.
Prohibited substances
- Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs and controlled substances may not be brought onto Museums Victoria premises.
- Museums Victoria venues are completely smoke free.
Safety
- The ticket holder voluntarily assumes all risks and danger in any way connected to admission to any Museums Victoria venue or event for which a ticket is issued, whether occurring prior to, during or after the admission or event. The ticket holder voluntarily agrees that Museums Victoria and employees are expressly released by the ticket holder from any claims or damages arising from such causes.
- Entry to any of Museums Victoria's venues is subject to any applicable directions under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic) as at the time of entry.
- Visitors must abide by any warnings and instructions issued by our staff.
- For your safety, footwear must be worn at all times throughout our museums.
- Please ensure that personal items are not left unattended. Museums Victoria is not liable for lost or stolen property.
- Museums Victoria reserves the right to inspect bags.
Ticketing terms and conditions
Exhibitions, onsite programs and events
- Tickets are not transferable or redeemable for cash. No refunds, changes or exchanges are permitted.
- Tickets cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or destroyed, and are valid only for the event and date and time for which issued and should be treated like cash. Museums Victoria accepts no liability for lost or stolen tickets.
- It is unlawful to reproduce tickets in any form. Each ticket can only be scanned and used once for the session date and time printed on the ticket.
- Unauthorised or unlawful resale or attempted resale of this ticket is grounds for seizure and cancellation without compensation.
- Tickets obtained from unauthorised sources may be lost, stolen or counterfeit, and if so are void.
- Each ticket is a revocable license and admission may be refused upon refunding the face amount of the ticket.
- Unless indicated otherwise, price includes all applicable taxes and/or cash discounts (if available).
Timed-entry tickets
- Exhibition tickets allow entry for up to 30 minutes after the booked session time. Museums Victoria has the right to refuse entry if you are more than 30 minutes late for your booked session time.
- It is your responsibility to attend the museum for your booked session date and time. Note that Museums Victoria may send you a pre-visit reminder email.
- Entry at the booked session time will be subject to safety considerations and the capacity of the exhibition space.
Cancellations and refunds
- In the event of a cancellation or rescheduling of the event, Museums Victoria shall not be required to issue a refund provided you are given the right, within twelve months of the date of the original event, to attend a rescheduled event or to exchange this ticket for a ticket, comparable in price and location, to another similar event as designated by Museums Victoria.
Photography, recording and publicity
- The use of cameras, video cameras and mobile phones is prohibited in designated special exhibitions.
- The ticket holder agrees by use of this ticket not to transmit or aid in transmitting any description, account, picture, or reproduction of the event for which this ticket is issued.
- The ticket holder acknowledges that the event may be broadcast or otherwise publicised, and hereby grants permission to utilise the ticket holder's image or likeness in connection with any live or recorded transmission or reproduction of such event.
Online programs and events
These terms and conditions apply to any individual who makes a booking, or any member of a group upon whose behalf a booking is made, to participate in an online program or event offered by Museums Victoria.
Museums Victoria offers online programs via Zoom and YouTube (digital platform) and by making a booking you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions which apply to the use of the digital platform.
Bookings and registration
- Payment is due in full at the time of booking.
- All transactions are in Australian dollars and may be subject to GST.
- Available spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis.
- Unless specific, each booking is for one individual / household.
Cancellation and refunds
- If you miss the live session time which you have booked, you will not be refunded for this booking.
- If Museums Victoria cancels an online program which you have booked you will receive a full refund for this booking.
- If Museums Victoria loses transmission or encounters some other technical problem during the Online Program, it will continue the session as soon as transmission is re-established or the other technical issue is resolved.
Use of passwords
- You must maintain the confidentiality of your password and not disclose or provide it to any other person.
- Any use of your e-mail address in conjunction with a password will identify you as the user of that account.
- Museums Victoria will hold you responsible for all use of the website that occurs when the e-mail address is used in conjunction with that password.
- If you become aware of any unauthorised use of your password or account you must notify Museums Victoria immediately.
Conditions of participation
When attending an online program, you agree:
- Not to use a camera or other recording device or to digitise or reproduce any images, sounds and data, without the prior written consent of Museums Victoria. The exception is for non-commercial social interaction purposes you engage in through social media such as blogging or tweeting.
- Not to wear or otherwise display commercial or offensive signage or logos or engage in ambush marketing generally nor sell or distribute any goods or services without the prior written consent of Museums Victoria.
- Not to re-sell or offer to re-sell any tickets to an online program at a premium or to use any of them for advertising, promotional or other commercial purposes (including competitions) without the prior written consent of Museums Victoria.
Photography, recording and publicity
For online programs in which participants can be seen by presenters:
- You acknowledge and agree that you and/or your participating family members or other members of your household may be photographed and/or filmed while participating in the online program(s), and that such photographs and/or recordings may be used in future publicity of the same or similar programs by Museums Victoria.
- You acknowledge that you will not receive any financial compensation for any of the uses referred to in paragraph (a).
- If you do not want any videos or photography to be taken of you or your family/household members during an online program, please ensure that you have your camera switched off at your end.
