Professor Nicholas Opie BE BSc PhD MBA is a biomedical engineer and world expert in neural interfaces. Opie has pioneered numerous industry innovations including bionic eyes designed to restore sight to those with profound vision loss; bionic spines designed to restore independence to those with paralysis, and the Stentrode™ which allows users to control devices with their mind via Bluetooth. This last design was listed in Time Magazine’s Top 100 Inventions of 2021.
Gary Haywood, Business Development Manager, Design + Industry
Gary Haywood is Business Development Manager for Design & Industry, Australia’s largest and leading product design and development studio. An experienced Product Designer and MBA, Gary has worked at the intersection of design-led innovation and business development for over 30 years. Gary’s background extends across advanced and additive manufacturing to high-volume production, where he has actively managed the sourcing, technical development and commercialisation of solutions for the Medtech industry.
