Celebrating National Science Week at Museums Victoria, renowned environmentalist and scientist, David Suzuki, joins forces with multi-award-winning ABC journalist and presenter, Natasha Mitchell, to discuss the current state of our planet and the importance of human intelligence in shaping a thriving future.

In this exclusive event for Now or Never, Dr. Suzuki will appear live via video link from Canada to deliver a keynote address that highlights the profound significance of this moment in time for the future of life on Earth.

Dr. Suzuki's reputation as one of the world's most respected voices in the environmental movement is well-earned. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to raising awareness about pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and reconnecting with our place in the world.

Following his keynote presentation, audience members will have a unique opportunity to participate in a live Q&A session with Dr. Suzuki. It's a chance to engage directly with this influential figure and gain valuable insights into the pressing environmental challenges we face.

Dr. David Suzuki

Scientist, broadcaster, author, and co-founder of the David Suzuki Foundation

Award-winning geneticist and broadcaster David Suzuki co-founded the David Suzuki Foundation in 1990. In 1975, he helped launch and host the long-running CBC Radio’s, Quirks and Quarks. In 1979, he became familiar to audiences around the world as host of CBC TV’s The Nature of Things, which still airs new episodes.

From 1969 to 2001, he was a faculty member at the University of British Columbia, and is currently professor emeritus. He is widely recognized as a world leader in sustainable ecology and has received numerous awards for his work, including a UNESCO prize for science and a United Nations Environment Program medal. He is also a Companion of the Order of Canada.

He has 29 honorary degrees from universities in Canada, the US and Australia. For his support of Canada’s Indigenous peoples, Suzuki has been honoured with eight names and formal adoption by two First Nations.

Natasha Mitchell

Natasha Mitchell is a multi-award-winning journalist, radio presenter, podcaster, and audio storyteller specialising in science & society. She is host of the ABC Radio National's flagship Big Ideas program and podcast, was founding host and producer of the internationally renowned radio show and one of the ABC’s first podcasts, All in the Mind, which won the Grand Prize and four Gold World Medals at the New York Radio Festivals, amongst other awards. Natasha hosted the ABC's daily social affairs program Life Matters, and was founding host and producer of Science Friction, awarded Best Science and Medicine podcast at the Australian Podcast Awards. Natasha served as a board member and vice president of the World Federation of Science Journalists and was recipient of the prestigious MIT Knight Fellowship. She has facilitated many public forums around Australia, including four science dialogues with the Dalai Lama and guests. She has an engineering degree with first class honours, and a postgraduate diploma in science communication.
