Culture Makers Lab

In each Culture Makers Lab workshop, young people work creatively to develop their own piece of writing or artwork, facilitated by artists and writers.

The format of the workshop includes an introduction to artist practice, facilitated creative activities, and feedback, discussion or Q&A. Young people also attend the Becoming You exhibition, which can be utilised for creative inspiration, by deep diving into stories or objects presented in this coming-of-age exhibition.

Culture Makers are supported by Museum staff to design, develop, and lead workshops aligned to the Victorian Curriculum that may explore their commissioned pieces or other works. The aim of the workshops is to use writing and art as a medium to navigate, complexify, and develop a nuanced understanding of identity and belonging, in safe spaces where young people can challenge norms, expectations and ideas around these issues.
