I originally studied Greek and Roman Archaeology and wanted to become an archaeologist, but after going on an archaeological survey in Port Lincoln, SA, I found that I was bored with the act of excavating, but not by the material I found. I decided that while I liked old things, I didn’t need to dig them up myself.
I studied Museum Studies at Deakin University and my first job was to relocate the Museum Victoria collections from the Swanston Street building to the new Melbourne Museum in 2000.
I have also worked at the Australian Maritime Museum in Sydney, the Workshops Rail Museum in Ipswich and the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.
I started working at Museum Victoria again in 2005, initially in the EMu database team before becoming an Assistant Collection Manager for the History and Technology Department.
At Scienceworks, I manage one of the larger collection stores within the museum. I look after the day-to-day running of the store as well as cataloguing the collection, retrieving material for curators and public access enquiries and assisting with exhibition or conservation projects.
I also manage the Numismatic (coins, banknotes and medals) and Philately (stamps) collections.
