We’re going on a bearhunt!
Jan, Liz and Zoe
We’ve had a ball putting together these resources for teachers and students. We have been helped along the way by many people both known and unknown. One of the connections that has really touched us is the community gallery of teddy bears and rainbows that have sprung up in our communities. We have gathered quite a collection of images from our walks through various neighbourhoods.
We’re not quite sure how the practice started but this article on ABC News captures the spirit of the movement.
Our Museum of Staying Home Rainbow Unicorn image has graced our social media pages and invited an unexpected response on our Facebook page. The artist responsible posted an image of the work in progress. And then 100 days later a new message of hope from our rainbow unicorn. Thanks Andrea and thanks to all who have shared a message of connection and hope in their windows and driveways.
Andrea's story
"When the Covid phase hit I was devastated to lose many community events and community meetings. I love community and working in a community service showed me how important support in these times was. We thought by painting our fence, we would give at least a little support. We loved all the rainbows and teddy bears in the windows. After we created the fence a lot of community members, in East Bentleigh connected with us. When restrictions loosened up and the mood changed, we thought it was time to change the quote to fit the new normal." Andrea Lange
