First Peoples art and design

The vision and creativity of First Peoples artists has been integral to shaping Biik Milboo Dhumba | Country Is Always Talking.

Dixon Patten's artwork informs the design used throughout Biik Milboo Dhumba

Honouring Country through visual design

Designer Dixon Patten developed the visual motif that underpins all of the design in Biik Milboo Dhumba | Country Is Always Talking. Dixon explains that the interwoven patterns represent the connection of culture and Country, featuring ovals that symbolise seedlings that grow to become plants, just as three different sized circles bring to mind the growth of communities.

The Sacred Tree of Our Songlines

Deep in the Forest Gallery stands a huge, metal sculpture in the form of a scar tree. Artist Robert Michael Young's The Sacred Tree of Our Songlines provides a place to reflect on the knowledge and wisdom of Country passed on through story.
