Investigate a significant moment of Melbourne’s history and explore historical sources in this self-directed excursion for secondary students.  

Students will experience

  • Immersion into the evocative Little Lon section of the Melbourne Story exhibition.
  • Thinking like a historian as they analyse artefacts and objects, primary and secondary sources.
  • Different perspectives and experiences of people from the past.

Students will learn

  • How the city of Melbourne has evolved and developed.
  • About the social issues of the time and significant groups or people involved in making change.
  • About the experiences, work and lifestyles of people who lived in Melbourne at the time.
  • How archaeological evidence can shape historic narratives.
  • To think creatively and critically.

Students will be provided

  • Students will be provided with a trail booklet, Dunny Detectives: Excavating Little Lon, to prompt questioning, thinking and investigating.

Students will need

  • Students will be required to bring their own pencil to complete their booklet.
