Melbourne Museum is pleased to announce the opening of Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler’s epic exhibition RELICS: A New World Rises.

Following their victory on Channel 9’s LEGO Masters™️ Series 2, the Perth duo is excited to bring their acclaimed art style across the country to families, art lovers and LEGO-fans. Direct from a huge success at the South Australian Museum where it broke attendance records, a bigger and more complete Relics will open at Melbourne Museum on Friday 1 September.

Set in a future long after humanity’s reign, RELICS tells the story of a world where LEGO® minifigures have risen from the debris to craft intricate civilisations in discarded human artefacts, each one inspired by the object they now call home.

RELICS: A New World Rises invites audiences of all ages on a journey of discovery, where stories of humanity are built through objects of play and nostalgia.

Featuring eye-opening LEGO creations nestled inside discarded vintage treasures, RELICS prompts an examination of our world through storytelling and gives objects that may be considered rubbish a whole new life.

“The LEGO minifigs are the plastic puppets of our stories, and we’ve had so much fun constructing hundreds of narratives with them. We hope people are able to find these stories, and create some of their own,” said Jackson Harvey. “RELICS is a very weird love child between an antique shop, the LEGO movie and Blade Runner.”

Thinking far beyond the bricks, Jackson Harvey & Alex Towler draw on their masterful design, engineering and visual art skills to weave fascinating narratives that reflect our world in a new light and engage with audiences’ understanding of expression, sustainability and connection.

“We are excited to welcome the creations of this dynamic duo to Melbourne Museum in such an imaginative and intriguing exhibition,” Museums Victoria Director & CEO Lynley Crosswell said. “LEGO® inspires storytelling in people of all ages, and the exhibition’s messages of conserving the past while looking to the future are enduring ones.”

Experience an interactive, engaging, and inspiring exhibition like never before, where each detailed environment provides a stage for rich storytelling that unveils more of the narrative the longer you look.
