STEM Beyond

Extending STEM from your early childhood service

STEM Beyond is an introduction to the importance of engaging with families, providing simple ways to engage with families through a STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Maths) lens. Delivered virtually, this webinar starts with 5 simple ways that all educators can use in their service, before offering ideas and inspiration for whole-of-service events.

STEM Beyond finishes with a targeted topic to extend your own knowledge as you support the learning of the children in your care. These topics will change each term. During term 3, STEM Beyond will have a Spring/ Nature focus, allowing you to confidently answer children’s questions about the outdoors.
We also include a 15-minute question and answer (Q&A) session at the end, to ensure you are leaving with all your questions answered!

When

Sessions are held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the beginning of each term. Participants do not have to have completed STEM Curious to participate in a session as they cover different content. To register for a session, please select a date below.

Benefits of a STEM Beyond Session

Children learn in the context of relationships with important caregivers. Within the early childhood sector, it is critical for educators and teachers to actively build relationships with children’s families to ensure children’s learning needs are met. This is encapsulated within the VEYLDF Practice Principle of Partnerships with Families (pracguidepartnershipswfamilies2017.pdf (education.vic.gov.au)).

I will definitely put more effort into embedding STEM in the program, but also showcase it more to families in order for children to continue and extend their learning outside of the early childhood setting. STEM Beyond participant, 2023
