This kit delves into the past, present and future of farming and agriculture to help students prepare for and predict future outcomes of food security.
This kit and its online support pages will allow students to practice geographical and historical skills as well as touch on cross-curricula ideas from economics, civics, science and visual arts. Using historical artefacts and events to build a foundation, students are encouraged to brainstorm and analyse ways of preparing for and predicting future outcomes of food security.
The artefacts in the learning kit are great launching pads for discussion, investigation and research. They include objects that highlight some of the many ways Victoria’s First Peoples expertly managed the land and were food secure and able to support populations for over 65,000 years. Other objects uncover stories of contemporary farmers today who are practicing sustainable methods of farming and replica museum objects that show the impacts of climate change and unpredictable weather events on our future.
This kit has been developed in partnership with VicHealth and is supported by an online support page that includes teachers' guides for Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary teachers to explore before, during and after their hire.
