Expedition Sulawesi

Discovering New Species in Indonesia's Mountain Forests

Pull on your hiking boots and join the adventures of Museums Victoria scientists exploring biodiversity in Indonesia's remote mountain forests. You just might discover a new species or two.

Dr Kevin Rowe

Hike deep into the remote mountain forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia – home to some of the most incredible mammals on Earth – and who knows what you'll find?

Our Senior Curator of Mammals, Kevin Rowe, certainly found more than expected. Several new species of mammals, many of which are considered scientifically extraordinary, were among his discoveries while on expedition with fellow scientists and locals to this global biodiversity hotspot. What are these new species, how were they discovered and what do they tell us about the evolution of life? Pull on your hiking boots and join Kevin to find out.
