Careers at the Museum
The first Careers at the Museum program offered an opportunity for participants from culturally diverse backgrounds to gain meaningful exposure to the work undertaken across Museums Victoria in partnership with Ubuntu Project. The program included exploration, immersion and application phases where ‘career curious’ participants were provided with holistic support throughout the recruitment, onboarding, compliance training, career application and beyond.
Our partnership with community-led partner Ubuntu Project enabled a meaningful and supportive work environment. Museums Victoria’s supervisor departments were supported with professional learning experiences prior to the program commencement. This learning enhanced our organisational commitment to being a culturally safe workplace. The professional learning for our staff supervisors included Implicit Bias and Racial Dignity Framework training delivered by Associate Professor Kathomi Gatwiri whose scholarly work launched in April 2025.
Careers at the Museum was delivered over three weeks with nine participants aged 18 years and above. Ten museum departments offered a range of professional career experiences across our museum sites and collection storages. Careers at the Museum was delivered within the context of Museums Victoria establishing itself within a national workplace network as a founding member of Welcoming Workplaces at Welcoming Australia.
