Melbourne Museum welcomes its youngest and most enthusiastic audience for a day of fun, excitement and adventure.

Featuring engaging and interactive experiences including mask-making, children’s storytime, and baby sensory sessions, Little Explorers Day will engage, entertain and delight children and adults alike.

Program

Humming with Hadrosaurs

10AM TO 2PM | Main Foyer | All Ages
Did dinosaurs roar like a lion or chirp like a bird? Explore the unique head-shapes of Hadrosaurs (one of our best clues for dinosaur sound) then colour and create your own 3D head mask inspired by this ancient group.

Story Seekers Presents

10:30AM, 12 noon AND 1:30PM | Learning Lab Studio | All Ages
Join us for this special edition of Story Seekers and welcome author and illustrator, Jess McGeachin as he reads and discusses some of his favourite books.

Baby Sensory

10AM, 10:45AM, 11:30AM, 1PM & 1:45PM | Learning Lab | 0 to 13 Months

Baby taking part in activities at Baby Sensory

Discover a magical world of sensory learning, wonder and exploration for babies from birth to 13 months that also provides ideas for play, massage, tummy time, movement and music at home.

Bunjil Feather Bookmarks

10AM TO 2PM | Birrarung Gallery | All Ages
Think about ways that you can care for Country, and share your thoughts by writing, colouring and decorating your very own paper Bunjil feather bookmark.

Museum Discovery

11AM, 12 noon, 1PM AND 2PM | Meet in Main Foyer | All Ages

Hosted by play and learning experts, come for a walk through some of our favourite prehistoric spaces, ask all your roar-some questions and uncover new insights about your favourite dinosaurs.

First People Stories

A joyful celebration of family and culture through immersive projection that encourages children to look, listen and consider. Includes River Connections, Tiddalik the Frog and Toy Stories.

Incy Wincy Fingers

10AM TO 2:00PM | The Walk East | 0 to 5 Years
A fine motor and sensory experience that provides opportunities for active exploration and stimulation of children's senses through play.

Baby Triceratops Meet & Greet

10:30PM, 11:30PM, 12:30PM & 1:30PM | Main Foyer | All Ages

Get up close and personal with this special meet and greet with our very own Baby Triceratops.

We know that dinosaurs had babies, and they probably all hatched from an egg. But what did they look like or sound like?

Eel Feeding

1:45PM | Milarri Garden | All Ages
See the short-finned eels in Milarri Pond enjoy their daily feed and learn about the importance of these fish to Australian Aboriginal people and our aquatic ecosystems.
