Ever heard of ants that farm bugs for honeydew, bees that buzz like tiny engines to shake pollen loose, or moths that fly over 1,000 kilometres to hide in mountain caves?
This winter, uncover the wild world of bugs through colour, creativity, and play at Creative Lab – Bug Out at Melbourne Museum!
Kids aged 3 to 10 will paint their own custom-designed Bug Hero cut-out using vibrant watercolours, then style a ready-to-go diorama with specially crafted props – creating miniature environments where their insects can crawl, climb, and hide.
As they create, children will discover the extraordinary survival skills insects use across Victoria’s forests, grasslands, and wetlands – and why even the smallest creatures are vital to our planet’s health.
This 45-minute hands-on workshop is packed with art, storytelling, and discovery. Parents are welcome to stay and join the fun or relax nearby and are encouraged to snap photos of their child's creation at the end of the session.
Perfect for kids who love to get creative, explore nature, and let their imaginations run free!
Please note: This ticket is an add-on and you are still required to get free general entry for your child and admission for any guardians attending the museum.
