Open Horizons lecture replay
National Archaeological Museum Director, Dr. Anna Vasiliki Karapanagiotou, presented an opening weekend lecture on the 23 April, that explores the themes and ideas in Open Horizons: Ancient Greek Journeys and Connections and the journey of the exhibition artifacts to Melbourne.
Hear Dr. Karapanagiotou’s insights into to the ideas, themes and key objects of this major international exhibition. The lecture with introductory remarks from Kat Theophanous MP, State Member for Northcote, also considers the unique creative collaboration between the National Archaeology Museum and Museums Victoria.
Inspired by the ideas, myths and histories of Ancient Greece and its influences on contemporary culture, Open Horizons: Ancient Greek Journeys and Connections presents ancient works dated from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman period and explores the stories of antiquity from Greece and the Mediterranean.

Dr. Anna Vasiliki Karapanagiotou

Dr. Anna Vasiliki Karapanagiotou is an archaeologist and Director of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece (Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports). Born in Tripoli, Arcadia, she graduated from the American Pierce College of Athens. She studied History, Archeology and History of Art at the University of Athens, continued postgraduate studies at the University of Munich, and then received a postgraduate degree in Classical Archeology from the University of Athens. In 2002 she received her Ph.D. from the University of Athens with high distinction. Her doctoral thesis was titled The image of the woman in Athens of the late Hellenistic and imperial years.
Anna Karapanagiotou has received scholarships from international research institutions and has researched scientific libraries in London, Berlin and Oxford. Her activity in the field of archaeological work includes excavations in Naxos, Kos, Attica, Laconia, Arcadia, Messinia and Sybari in Southern Italy. She is currently Director of the Greek-American Mt. Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project, Arcadia.
