Let's fold a lucky envelope

So this Lunar New Year, why not join us in writing a message for hope for someone you care about. Pair it with one of these cute Year of the Ox Designs and you’ll be sure to make someone’s day.

For this activity, you will need a printed copy of our template, a pair of scissors, a glue stick and a selection of coloured crayons, or pencils to decorate.

1. Print out the template using the link provided then colour in and cut out all the pieces including the nose, eyes, ears and horns.

2. Take the large square and fold it in half from corner to corner to make a large triangle.
3. With the long edge perpendicular to you, fold down the top of the triangle on one side. You should now be able to see four triangles of equal size.
4. Take the right-hand side and fold it over towards the centre. Depending on where you make this fold, your envelope may be smaller or larger. Wherever you choose, make sure to repeat this step on the left-hand side also.
5. To make a nook that the envelope flap can tuck in to, take the side that sits on top and make a fold perpendicular closest to the bottom edge. The crease should line up with the centre horizontal point of the envelope. Using your index finger, push the bottom of this fold inwards to create a diamond.
6. Bring down the top of the remaining triangle to make the flap and complete your envelope.
7. To decorate your envelope glue the ears, horns and eyes into position. The nose can also be glued at this time but make sure that you only stick it to the diamond at the front and not the whole envelope.
8. All that’s left to do now, is to write your message of hope and send it to someone special. We’re certain you’ll have as much fun writing your letter as it will to be to receive it.
