Stories of colonial violence in Victoria

This film, exhibited in the ‘Call to Fight’ section of the First Peoples exhibition, Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at the Melbourne Museum, explores stories of violence that occurred in the nineteenth century across the state of Victoria.

Told through the oral histories of First Peoples and settler Victorians, we hear a range of stories that share the diverse conflicts that took place in our early history. From the Native Police who were used to end Aboriginal resistance to invasion, to massacres of First Peoples, to retaliation against the settlers for their violence.

These stories form an important part of our shared history.
