Get your ghoulies together for a howlingly fun Halloween after-dark experience at Melbourne Museum, packed with bone-chilling beats, wicked treats and frightening feats.

The museum will transform into a Halloween super-natural den of delight for this new, unmissable event on 31 October, celebrating the wild, weird wonders of the world. The museum is everyone’s neighbourhood; break out the costumes or come as you are.

Enter through the fog-filled garden to find giant puppets lurking in a formidable forest, then venture in further to trick-or-treat your way through the museum, collecting limited edition collector cards and goodies. Extra family programming will feature between 6.00 and 8.30pm, offering a safe, friendly place to dress up and go trick-or-treating. The spooky Scienceworks pop-up will conjure weird science and frightening physics, and Campfire Stories will spin enchanting tales of stranger-than-fiction creatures that go bump in the night.

Museum experts will be out in full freaky-fact force to chat about Halloween-inspired collection items and creatures including the vampire squid from hell, biofluorescent scorpions and zombie wasps.

Hit the dance floor with Halloween music all night, spliced with haunting sets from Miles Brown on the eerie, otherworldly theremin - the only instrument in the world that is played without being touched. Later in the night, for the ghoulish grown-ups, he’ll join his band: mind-melting Melbourne outfit The Night Terrors, dishing up dark synth magic, thunderous dreamscapes and other-worldly electronica.

From 8:30pm to 11pm, the museum will mutate into an electrifying Halloween experience for adults, as the dance floor heats up with dress-ups to die for. Retreat to a haunted 1920s cinema offering a spooky sampling of curated clips and trailers from the Melbourne Horror Film Society or take a ghost tour for a paranormal adventure through space and time.

Haunting can make you hungry; seek sustenance all night in the Vampire Bites Cafe with its Halloween inspired burgers, pizzas, fresh salads, creamy soft serves and signature cocktails.

Close out the night with a special screening of The Babadook at IMAX at 9.30pm, marking the 10th anniversary of the Aussie cult classic psychological horror.

Try something different this Halloween – creep into the Museum after dark for sweet treats and freaky beats.
