Nocturnal x The Fashion Edition – Dan Cut Copy (DJ set), Ausecuma Beats, Glass Beams and DJ Sui Zhen bounce into Melbourne Museum
Serving fashion, performance, live music and exclusive nighttime access, Melbourne Museum presents Nocturnal x The Fashion Edition on Friday March 10 in collaboration with WAT Artists and fashion designer Erik Yvon.
Presented as part of PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Fashion Culture Program, the latest Nocturnal offers its much-loved, attention-grabbing mix of live music, museum tours, curator talks, crafty classes and pop-up performances.
Purveyor of experimental pop, Sui Zhen will warm up proceedings with a chilled DJ set, followed by the enigmatic psych-fusion of Glass Beams, whose hypnotic riffs and intergalactic synths have been entrancing fans since they formed two years ago.
In the quiet, away from the dancefloor, there is much to delight curious minds. Mob in Fashion and Melbourne Fashion Festival have partnered with Museums Victoria to present Future/History (March 3-12) - a display of First Peoples fashion design, with 16 beautiful garments made on and with materials from Country by three artists: Lillardia Briggs-Houston, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins and Cassie Leatham.
Next to ply the tunes will be Naarm dancefloor favourites Ausecuma Beats. Led by their fearless bandleader and master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble demonstrate what can happen when a group of artists come together based on an idea – in this case, the idea of place, of transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city.
Finalising the evening’s proceedings with style will be a DJ set from Cut Copy’s Dan Whitford, serving up sure-fire dancefloor bangers which the Melbourne synth-pop duo are renowned for globally. Catch him before he jets off to Mexico to support the iconic Blondie.
