Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks and IMAX Melbourne to reopen

Museums Victoria has announced that Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum and Scienceworks will reopen from Monday 16 November and IMAX Melbourne from Thursday 19 November following the Victorian Government’s latest easing of coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

An exciting new addition to reopening plans, the Melbourne Museum Plaza will be transformed into a safe and family-friendly summer outdoor space hosting live performances and entertainment, movies curated by IMAX Melbourne and special food and beverage offerings.

Museums Victoria CEO and Director Lynley Crosswell is thrilled to welcome visitors back.

‘We know that our museums have an important role to play in helping families and communities coming out of lockdown to start to feel whole again. We’re incredibly excited to be able to share our collections, and our indoor and outdoor spaces, with visitors who want to reconnect with their beloved city, community and culture again.’

A wide range of health and safety measures will be in place to ensure that visits to our museums are as safe as possible.

‘While our doors have been closed, we’ve been adapting our exhibitions, programs and spaces to help ensure our visitors and staff stay healthy and safe.’

Minister for Creative Industries Danny Pearson said the reopening was a key step in Melbourne’s move to COVID Normal.

‘Our much-loved museums have been part of life for generations of Victorians. No matter your age, Museums Victoria’s venues are places to discover the wonders of the world, explore our history and inspire the imagination – all the ingredients for a fantastic day out.

‘While the doors reopen, the successful Museum at Home online program will continue to open up the experience of our museums to people across the state, and beyond.’

Over the coming months, visitors of all ages can enjoy their favourite museum galleries as well as brand new exhibitions. For the latest details about everything on offer, including the new Melbourne Museum Summer Plaza Series, keep an eye on the Museums Victoria website and social media platforms.

Tickets for Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks and Immigration Museum will be available for Museum Members from Wednesday 11 November at 10am and for the general public from Friday 13 November at 1pm. With restricted visitor numbers in place, bookings are essential.

Museums Victoria continues to share the wonder of the State Collections via the Museum at Home virtual experiences, an initiative which begun during lockdown and has so far reached 16.3 million people since March.
