Māreikura - Ka rere te rongoā | The medicine flows, an exhibition by Māori storyteller Irihipeti Waretini, explores traditional Māori sacredness in a contemporary, dramatic showing of cultural practises and knowledge systems.
As part of the Culture Makers program, the exhibition is anchored by a carved pou (pillar) and features stunning photographic portraits of Māori women living in Naarm (Melbourne) with moko kauae (traditional chin tattoos), with additional installations of multimedia art, text, film and soundscape.
Celebrate the launch of this important exhibition with a Welcome to Country followed by special demonstrations by Te Ara Hononga, a Māori Martial Art School and Ngā Mātai Pūrua, a Māori Kapahaka School.
