I have worked at Museums Victoria since 2006 as an objects and preventive conservator. I previously worked as a conservator in several different Australian art galleries, museums and archives, including the film and sound archive and an archaeological repository. I currently oversee the preventive conservation work across the Museum in specialised areas of sciences, objects of all kinds and paper, images and audio-visual materials.
My current work involves building relationships to develop and implement processes and actions that favour the access and long-term preservation of our collections. I am particularly interested in using passive and low energy methods to manipulate the environment around an object to slow the natural progression of deterioration.
Key projects and interests at the moment include surveying and treating plastics, developing a preservation plan for batteries, anything to do with the Kodak Heritage Collection and installing datalogging equipment to compare the preservation environments across our facilities. My background in statistics and love of data interpretation has driven me towards condition surveying and enhancing the quality of documentation.
My art curatorship thesis researched the nexus between art and science in early Australian scientific illustration - an opportunity for me to explore my dual interests of art and the history of science.
I was inspired at an early age by the wonder and excitement of museums during many family trips to the museum in Darwin, where I grew up. I maintain this spirit every day in my work where I aim to make our important collections accessible to as many people as possible, both today and into the future.
